Corfe CastleCorfe Castle is imposing when seen from a distance but inside there isn't a lot left in tact -
not a spiral staircase to climb nor a dark corridor to explore.
The villains of the piece, once again, are Cromwell & co. who, having taken the castle,
demolished it so it could never shield their opponents again.
The visitor centre (open weekends only in winter though the castle remains open every day) gives a good insight into the castle's 900 year history and inhabitants. The adjoining village of Corfe Castle is well worth a wander round and the Swanage Steam Railway's Corfe Castle station is just across the road. |map| |next attraction|
