Maiden Castle DorchesterTake an hour or so to walk up and around Maiden Castle - that'll blow the cobwebs away.
There's no castle and no maiden, but this Iron Age hill fort is still very impressive.
It's the biggest in the country and even today the ditches have the wow factor
- two and a half thousand years ago this place would have been awe-inspiring.
The flat top of the hill housed a settlement. It's the size of 50 football pitches, so it would have been a fair sized and well protected community. Great place for walkers, energetic picnickers, kite-flyers and students of our great country's ancient past. |map| |next attraction| |
