Old Wardour CastleOld Wardour Castle is in the middle of the countryside on the edge of a wood - great place for a walk or a picnic.
The Castle is a ruin but you can climb up inside the turrets. The Civil War is, as so often, to blame
for the Castle's state - gunpowder in the drainage tunnels. Interesting audio guide.
If you think you've seen the castle somewhere before you probably have - in the film Robin Hood Prince of Thieves. In winter, November to March, the castle is only open Saturdays and Sundays: the brochure you'll pick up in hotels and Tourist Information Centres doesn't make that very clear. |map| |next attraction|
