Silbury HillIf you're passing it's worth pulling in to the little car park - nice place for a picnic
- and walking the few yards to the viewing point. But that's it.
You can't get any closer to the Hill and you certainly can't clamber up it
- the paths you can see winding up the hill are presumably sheep tracks.
The Avebury area is crammed with prehistoric constructions. The Avebury stone circles, the West Kennet Long Barrow, Barbury Castle, the Ridgeway and the Sanctuary to name but a few. The Sanctuary is disappointing though: two concentric circles of small concrete blocks marking where the posts of a henge once stood. Tour the Avebury area then a late lunch in Marlborough perhaps? |map| |next attraction|
