Silbury Hill

If you're passing it's worth pulling in to the little car park - nice place for a picnic - and walking the few yards to the viewing point. But that's it. You can't get any closer to the Hill and you certainly can't clamber up it - the paths you can see winding up the hill are presumably sheep tracks. |more days out| 

The Avebury area is crammed with prehistoric constructions. The Avebury stone circles, the West Kennet Long Barrow, Barbury Castle, the Ridgeway and the Sanctuary to name but a few. The Sanctuary is disappointing though: two concentric circles of small concrete blocks marking where the posts of a henge once stood. Tour the Avebury area then a late lunch in Marlborough perhaps? |map| |next attraction|
