Vale & Downland Museum WantageSome small-town museums are of limited interest but the Vale and Downland Museum is an exception.
It has a number of exhibits including the story of Alfred the Great who was born in Wantage in 849.
Also a large-screen video on the area's geology.
The history of Wantage is told: apparently it was once renowned as a place of highwaymen and general lawlessness. Wantage also had the first steam powered tram service in the country. There's even a Williams F1 car. The museum is quite small but the entrance charge is modest and represents good value. Nice little café too. |map| |next attraction|
